It’s a hard life, and everyone does what they can to get by. Some people look for things to make life easier – such as making money online. But unfortunately that’s not a viable option, at least not for most people.
I assume you’re reading this post because you’re interested in making money online, right? Ok, do me a favour, go Google ‘make money online’ and take a real look at the results, go on, I’ll wait.
What did you find? I bet if you really looked at the search results you’d find a ton of scams, or deals that don’t seem to be trustworthy. Why? Because making money online is hard work, really hard work.
I’ve been working on trying to make money online for 6 months. I haven’t even broken even yet. I’ve managed to regain about 50% of the money I have invested – but it’s been really hard work. But I’ll tell you a secret, I have a goal to break even by the time my blog is one year old – and a bit of a cushion around that. I’m determined to make it, I’ve got a chart on my wall to show me how long I have left – and I crossed my fingers too.
If you’re thinking this post is a message for you to quit or not even try you’re wrong. But it is a message – set yourself an achievable goal, and work hard at it. Try and find a blogging buddy (I can even be one!) or a couple and check back in with each other. But don’t give up – because the only way you can fail is if you quit. Be prepared to work hard for a long time – there’s probably 2 people out of the billions of people in the world who hit it lucky and ended up making a fortune on their blogs overnight without working at it for years first.

Great post Rosemary. No matter how much we dream, at one point or another we will have to face the fact that many things are not as they seem. Actually I figured this out as soon as I started blogging. Then it was clear to me that it will take a lot of hard work to make it happen.
But you are right when you say that we have to go for it. It’s the only way that could make success possible. Logic dictates that if we provide value, have a decent site, interact with readers, do some basic SEO principles, marketing and connect with other bloggers, money will eventually come. I just saw how many things I mentioned, and again I get the picture why it’s not that easy.
But that’s the fun part now isn’t it?
I haven’t made any money so far, but I do not intent to either. It’s too early. I’ve been blogging for more then a month now. What I really need to focus on right now is providing value, and some of the things I mentioned above. I also go for writing more articles, some of them for later, some for guest posting on related sites. It’s important I guess to make your schedule even early on because chances are it will be the same even when you start making some money. I also like your idea of setting goals.
Great to see that you are doing your thing, and not doubting. That’s the most important. Everything else will come over time.

These are very good points, RJ. One should focus on content and developing relationships with other people – first and foremost – in my opinion.
Thanks for the post. The thing that sticks for me is when you keep coming back to the idea of hard work. Most anything in this world that is worthwhile takes hard work.
I can read your determination in your post. In the end it will come as long as you put in the effort the whole way. Good luck and I’m glad to have found your page.

This is really true, people may say you are negative, but it is just honest. While you can make money online it is not an easy road. I don’t think just anyone could do it.
Definitely not “negative.” Just realistic, and I can appreciate that
Definitely have to agree with you and say that’s it’s a tough road. It’s definitely not one of those “over-night success” sort of things. Especially building something long-term.
I’ve monetized through services and a membership site. Both took tons and tons of hours of hard work. Late nights, lots of Redbull and skittles and just good ol’ fashioned hard work.
Thanks for advice…I won’t quit.
I found your blog whilst researching opportunities to promote my Kindle book “Making Money Online Isn’t Easy” which was inspired by reaading all the nonsense on SEO forums from people claiming to make 6 figure incomes out of their “system” which invariably turn out to be a lot of rubbish. You may find the spoof promo video amusing! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCISj3Tr0tk in 18 years of selling products and services online I’ve had my successes and failures, but the successes are always the product of hard work! But as long as you are prepared to do the hard slog then you’ve instantly got an advantage over the people who spend all their time chasing short-cuts that don’e exist. I’m sure you’ll reach your goal – if you don’t get there this year then renew your effort and try twice as hard next year – you’ll get there in the end!
